Background

In 2017 we established the SPi Awards, an international photography competition offering top prizes and exposure for a minimal entry fee. Concerned that the high level of entry fees charged by many competitions excludes a huge number of talented photographers from around the world from entering, we set a price of £2 per picture.

By reducing the barrier to entry, we hope to attract a greater representation of photographers regardless of economic status, location, ethnicity, race or gender.

Our aim with the SPi Awards is to showcase some of the best street photography being produced in the world, past or present, and to represent the wide diversity of styles within the genre.

Sponsors & Prizes

We are proud to have been sponsored by Olympus in 2017 and Leica UK in 2018. Our winners from these years both had solo exhibitions at prestigious galleries in London and received high end cameras and lenses perfectly suited for street photography.

We also selected twenty finalists each year who's work formed a separate group exhibition. All our finalists received runners up prizes from top camera accessories companies including Billingham Bags and Angelo Pelle straps.

Judging

The competition is judged by the three founders of SPi. We judge the awards "blind', meaning the name, location and gender of the entrant is not taken into account, only the quality of the work entered. We see this as the only truly objective way to judge, and ensures that everybody holds the same chance to win.
